1. Our approach
IOTech Global Hub Limited treats internet traffic on our network fairly. We do not block, slow down or prioritise lawful content, applications, services or devices because of who provides them or what they are. This policy explains the limited cases in which we do manage traffic, as required by the NCC Internet Code of Practice. It forms part of our Internet Service Terms and supports section 4 of our Consumer Code of Practice.
2. When we manage traffic
We use reasonable traffic management only for these purposes, using industry-standard techniques and only for as long as needed:
- Network security and integrity: to protect our network and customers from attacks such as denial-of-service, malware, botnets and spam. This can include filtering or rate-limiting malicious traffic, or isolating a compromised connection until it is cleaned.
- Congestion: to manage temporary or exceptional congestion, for example during a fibre cut or equipment failure, so that every customer keeps a usable service. Where we do this, similar types of traffic are treated the same way.
- Fair usage: on plans that have a Fair Usage Policy, as explained below.
- Legal obligations: to comply with Nigerian law, a court order, or a direction from the Nigerian Communications Commission or another competent authority, such as blocking access to child sexual abuse material or other unlawful content.
We do not inspect the content of your communications to manage traffic. Where a managed network service includes quality-of-service features, such as prioritising voice or video calls inside your own network, we set them up only at your request and as described in your agreement.
3. Fair Usage Policy
Fair Usage Policies apply only to certain plans sold as unlimited, to prevent network congestion and keep the service fair for all customers on shared capacity. If your plan has one:
- the usage threshold, and the speed or service adjustment that applies once it is reached, are stated in your plan before you buy it;
- you will receive alerts as you approach the threshold;
- we will tell you clearly and in advance before your speed is reduced or your service is adjusted, and when full speed will return;
- you can upgrade your plan at any time to avoid the adjustment.
Dedicated internet and other enterprise services are provided at the capacity set out in your service agreement or SLA.
4. What affects your speed and performance
Advertised speeds are the maximum your plan supports. The speed you experience can also depend on:
- the number of devices sharing your connection, and how they are used;
- Wi-Fi range, walls, interference and the age of your devices and cabling;
- for Air Fiber and microwave links, line of sight between sites and severe weather;
- the performance of the websites, apps and international routes you connect to, which are outside our network;
- local power supply at your premises.
If your service is consistently slower than you expect, contact our support team. We will help you test it and investigate under our Complaints procedure.
5. Planned maintenance
We schedule maintenance outside business hours wherever possible and give affected customers advance notice. Urgent work to fix a fault or a security risk may need to happen at short notice.
6. Changes to this policy
If we change how we manage traffic in a way that affects your service, we will update this page and tell affected customers before the change takes effect.
